Rope Covered Garden Arches

A single garden arch may be covered in a variety of rope designs. Single Arches are designed to be set in concrete for stability.

The coachwhipped arch on the left is made from Manila rope, and has been preserved with Le Tonkinois natural varnish.

The picture in the centre shows a Ringbolt Arch made from braided polyester.

The picture on the right shows an arch covered with Manila rope and protected with natural varnish.

Turk's-head knots are perfect for covering intersections on wooden or steel garden structures. They are particularly suitable for Nautical Gardens.

The three models below were made to show some of the possible knot configurations that can be used to cover an intersection.

The corners of the wooden arch on the left, have been covered with my smallest 4 Bight Corner knots. The thinner intersections have have been covered with 3 Bight knots.

The central arch has 4 Bight Tee Junction knots covering the intersections where the horizontals are of similar diameter. The thinner intersections have been covered with 5 Bight knots.

The arch on the right has been covered with a crown sennit. The intersections have been covered with 4 Bight Tee Junction knots.
